Our First Post

About Me

I want to start by introducing myself. My name is Bryan Garrison, and I am the Youth/Associate Pastor for Oaklawn Baptist Church in Texarkana, TX. I have served the church there since 2009, and many things have grown and changed, myself included. My wife Jackie and I have become foster parents as well as adopted two of the children placed with us. We’re constantly on the go, so my posting may be a bit fewer and further between than I’d like, but we’ll get there.

A Little History

My friend, Alan, began a Bible Study in his home a few years ago and invited me to join them. It was during these studies on Tuesday nights that I began to realize that even in all my years of going to church I wasn’t really learning anything. I began to do a lot more study on various topics throughout the Bible. This really opened my eyes to a lot… I began to realize that many churches (ours included sometimes) aren’t really following the Word but rather traditions. We began talking about what causes this, and I think we both agreed that a main reason for a church to be off course, is that the individuals aren’t studying to show themselves approved (2 Tim 2:15) outside of Sunday morning church.

So we made it our mission to open our own church’s eyes to this fact. Alan began helping teach in Bible Studies for his church, and I began to teach our Sunday night Bible study. Many of our people were surprised to see just what all was in the Bible. We took it a step further and started a “Question of the Week” study where our participants wrote a list of Bible questions they wanted answers to. This was fun! Our very first question was why was Eleazar of Damascus considered Abraham’s heir? (Genesis 15) I still think everyone is in shock that I brought in copies of ancient Sumerian law relating to adoption…. Anyway, it took me into deep study trying to find out exactly what was going on.

Our Goal

I found that I really enjoy the kind of study that keeps me up late, reading crazy (but relevant) information, and just stays with me throughout the day. That’s what I want to do for you. I want to help you find the answer you’re seeking, but also teach you how to find the answers. This site is dedicated to in-depth Bible Study, but we’re also going to look at other things (not exactly sure what yet, but I have a few ideas). I want to help you draw closer to God (James 4:8), in rightly dividing the Word of Truth (2 Tim 2:15), and in having your feet shod with preparation to share the Gospel (Eph 6:15). Follow along with us in this Adventure in Scripture!

Be Blessed Friends!
